Dana and I have been talking about getting a Kart for Luke to autocross in the Junior Kart class with the SCCA. I had been looking but costs were higher than I was willing to spend. Finally, Lee managed to stumble on a kart online and it was the right price! Dana and I headed out and picked it up.
Luke had been part of the conversation about the kart and knew we were looking for one. When we brought him home and showed him the Kart, he was ecstatic!
All that said, it isn’t a turn-key operation. I bought a clutch for the kart and got it running. We needed a trailer to transport the kart. I bought a trailer kit and with Luke’s help, we got it together. One last hurdle I have to resolve is stripping the paint off of the rear wheels…the cracked paint was preventing the tires from holding air!
Once that is done, there is some tuning I need to do. We need to buy all of Luke’s safety gear and we’ll be ready to go. We’re hoping to make it to our next event on August 27th. If not then, we’ll try for the September event.
