{"id":2573,"date":"2014-06-13T13:53:46","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T18:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/?p=2573"},"modified":"2015-10-20T10:13:13","modified_gmt":"2015-10-20T15:13:13","slug":"june-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/june-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"June 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently finished my <a title=\"1982 Shelby Dodge Charger \u2013 MPC\" href=\"http:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/1982-dodge-charger-mpc\/\">&#8217;82 Charger kit<\/a> and just in time for Father&#8217;s day. \u00a0The <a title=\"Opel GT \u2013 AMT\" href=\"http:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/opel-gt-amt\/\">Opel<\/a> and The Charger are gifts for my dad. \u00a0Due to my focus on finish the Charger before father&#8217;s day, I really wasn&#8217;t working on anything else. \u00a0Now I feel like the flood gates are opening and I can really get back into my usually level of activity.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, I pulled another kit from the shelf. \u00a0The 2nd &#8217;82 Charger kit was purchased at the same time as the 1st. \u00a0I had intended to build the second one for myself. \u00a0Considering all of the difficulties I had with the first, I was reluctant to build another. \u00a0After a bit of pondering, I decided to do a V8 RWD conversion on <a title=\"1982 Dodge \u201cHemi\u201d Charger \u2013 MPC \u2013 WIP\" href=\"http:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/1982-dodge-hemi-charger-mpc-wip\/\">Charger #2<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;ve roughed in quite a bit of the changes but there is still a lot of work to do.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also added the rework of an unpainted &#8217;65 Vette. \u00a0After watching a video review of a C2 vette that was built for autocrossing, I decided I needed to try and replicate it. \u00a0I&#8217;m using a set of Aoshima wheels along with a paint job to copy the Vette from the video.<\/p>\n<p>I also successfully repainted the rear tail light on my <a title=\"Nissan S14 Silvia \u2013 Fujimi\" href=\"http:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/nissan-s14-silvia\/\">S14 Silvia kit.<\/a> \u00a0In my write-up for the project, I expressed my concerns regarding the poor detail of this kit. \u00a0The rear tail lights were not molded with lines to delineate the shapes of the lenses. \u00a0When it was first finished, I just threw some paint on it and called it a day. \u00a0These days, my masking skills are far superior and after I figured out how to strip the paint, I had a fresh canvas from which to try and make it look right. \u00a0With Tamiya tape, an xacto knife and the steadiest hand I could muster, I free handed the outlines of the lenses while looking at a picture of 240SX that I once owned. \u00a0I was stunned by the final results. \u00a0It&#8217;s far from perfect but light years better than the first iteration. \u00a0I also added the wing that came with the kit by drilling and pinning it in place. \u00a0I had painted the wing back when I painted the kit. \u00a0I&#8217;m glad I did it and kept it. \u00a0The overall look of the kit is significantly better than it was originally.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, I elected to stop the rework on the <a title=\"1969 Camaro \u2013 Revell Monogram\" href=\"http:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/1969-camaro\/\">&#8217;69 Camaro<\/a>\u00a0I finished years ago. \u00a0Although I was never happy with the color, the paint still turned out really well. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t bring myself to grind down the original work. \u00a0Instead, I finished assembling the newly painted engine and started reassembling the rest of the kit. \u00a0At this point, I&#8217;d rather have it back in my case.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-2573 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/june-2014\/models-2014-216\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/models-2014-216-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-2574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/models-2014-216-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/importnut.net\/models\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/models-2014-216-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-2574'>\n\t\t\t\tThe &#8220;Hemi&#8221; I&#8217;m still glad I repainted the engine.
