This Civic goes all the way back to around 1997. My airbrush experience was only a few years old at the time and I struggled with simple mistakes. I was also still exclusively using enamels. After spraying it red, I followed up with clear. Unfortunately, my airbrush was contaminated with whatever metallic paint I had sprayed earlier. The clear was ruined. At some point, I lost a headlight. This model sat in the background for years.

Fast forward to 2012, I saw an article in Grassroots Motorsports where their project Civic was painted red oxide primer. I didn’t want to do it to my real Civic but this model seemed like the perfect candidate. I made a headlight lens out of clear acetate and painted all of them black. This was technically the first time this model was finished.

Fast forward to 2020, when a lot of people had a lot of extra time, I decided to strip this model and start from scratch. Part of my motivation was an extra set of lenses for the lights. I also wanted to use a few aftermarket parts that needed some place to go.

The most significant addition to the body was a resin duck bill spoiler. I chose Dodge Frostbite blue for the paint. Zoomon photoetch emblems were used.

The interior was flocked.

Nearing completion. The wheels, lenses and other miscellaneous parts were painted and ready.

I used the spare resin dashboard from my Civic coupe resin trans kit.

Zoomon wheels and brakes, along with aluminum exhaust tips wrapped up the build. After two decades, this model was finally given the respect it always deserved. I’m very pleased with the build!
